jewelry care tips

You just acquired the piece of your dreams? You can’t wait to wear them tonight during dinner? Well wait a second! Before that, here are some piece of advice so that your jewels last forever.

What are our jewelry made out of?

Every Aroz piece is made out of 925 sterling silver. For our golden pieces, they are plated with 24 carats gold, 5 microns.

Of what? Microns?

A micron is a unit of measurement. 1 micron = 0.001 millimeter. In fact, it is a thin layer of gold. Our jewels are dipped 5 times in 24 carat gold to guarantee a long life.

We also have jewelry that are in 18 or 19k gold, from our One Eight collection. Those are jewelry to celebrate an important moment of your life or simply to treat yourself.

Silver, gold plated, 19k gold, what’s the difference?

Every material has its particularities:

925 Silver is a precious metal that doesn’t lose its shine if you take good care of it! Of course, these jewels can be worn on a day to day basis without harming them but you need to know how to take care of them when they are not being worn.

Vermeil jewels are made out of 925 silver, adorned with several layers of gold. They have the same appearance as solid gold jewelry, but are much less expensive. It is therefore necessary to take care of them, so that the gold layer does not fade away quickly.

18 and 19 carats gold are the most noble. They are of great quality and last for years. They are made of 75% gold and 25% other materials to make them strong (because 24k gold is malleable). These jewels are easy to care of and are never in danger of losing their color.

So, how do I take care of my jewels?

Remember to keep them away from direct light and humidity. A small closed box in a sock drawer in your room is a perfect place to store them!

If you notice that your jewels are starting to lose their shine, wipe them gently with a chamois cloth. Don’t hesitate to ask for them for free when you order online or while you’re at our Showroom!

For jewelry, especially the gold plated ones, we highly discourage you to put any kind of creams or perfumes on them. These products can have some chemicals that can damage your prettiest treasures. Don’t worry about fresh water though!

My jewels lost their shine, what can I do?

925 silver jewelry

First of all, if you don’t know what to do, you can always come to the Showroom and we will try to help you the best we can. But there are still some tips and tricks you can learn to give a new shine to your jewels.

Jewels made out of 925 silver can sometimes lose their shine if they are not well isolated. Here are some solutions:

For a silver jewelry that has been oxidized, a product that works wonders is the Silver Clean. Careful with it because you don’t want to use to much of it. We personally use the one from the brand Hagerty that can be bought at Di. You just need to dip your jewel in the product for a few seconds, rince the product off and gently wipe the excess water and ta-daa!

When the damage is more important than a small oxidation, we also offer silver baths with our Second Life service.

Vermeil jewelry

For gold-plated jewels, it can happen that the jewels lose their golden color, especially for rings if you have a tendency of not taking them off when you wash your hands. We offer a Second Life service. During the first year after you acquired your little treasure, the jewels can be sent back for repairs or golden bath for free. After the first year, we still offer this service but it will be at your charges. You will find more information about this service here.

The best way of taking care of your jewels is to make them shine by wearing them! With their timeless design, our pieces of jewelry are imagined to be worn in your daily life!
